Lika Electronic has developed a complete range of ATEX certified encoders providing airtight and flameproof enclosures against both gas and dust explosive atmospheres. They are rugged and safe to operate in hazardous and harsh areas and yet highly adaptable to meet the most varied process control requirements of specific applications.


Compliance with the ATEX Directive 94/9/EC is a legal requirement in all European Union Member States for any equipment intended for use in potentially explosive atmospheres. 
Lika Electronic designs and manufactures a complete range of ATEX certified encoders in both incremental and absolute versions suitable to be integrated into applications in hazardous areas such as in mining industry, surface industry, chemical plants, petrol refineries and laboratories, painting machines, enamelling machines, fertiliser plants, food industry, off-shore platforms, ATEX-motors and ATEX-elevators. 
In such environments and applications, where fire or explosion hazards may exist due to flammable gases or vapors, flammable liquids, combustible dust or ignitable fibers or flyings, equipments must be safe against high temperatures, sparks, arcs and electrical phenomena. Furthermore the enclosure must be strong enough to contain an explosion within and to withstand everyday use in the most demanding conditions.

XC77 and XAC77 series ATEX certified encoders from Lika Electronic provide airtight and flameproof enclosures and high ignition protection levels against both gas and dust explosive atmospheres and are intended for use in Zones 1, 2, 21 and 22 and in the temperature category T6. 
Lika encoders bear the following ATEX marking:

This means they can be used in environments where explosive atmosphere can happen (group II), provide high level of protection for both gas and dust explosive atmospheres (2GD) and fit an explosion-proof casing (Ex d) with maximum surface temperatures below 100°C (T6). Furthermore, in particular about dust, their casing is dust-proof with IP65 protection rate so explosive dust cannot penetrate inside the encoder (Ex tD IP65) and their external surface never reach a temperature higher than 85°C.

ATEX encoders come in both incremental (XC77 series) and absolute (XAC77 series) versions and the most complete range of communication interfaces. Engineered to withstand rough conditions and built to last, they are able to provide sturdiness and reliability and offer an ultra-rugged 77-mm outer diameter and 10-mm thick anticorodal alloy housing with superior opto-electronics for precise process control and dependable enduring service. Their mechanical properties along with the excellent encapsulation are designed to ensure robustness and durability even under harsh operating conditions, thus they are able to handle the most severe applications affected by high radial and axial shaft loads, extreme shock and vibration impacts as well as large temperature fluctuations (-25° +85°C / -13 +185°F). Furthermore they provide IP65-rated protection against environmental factors including dust, dirt, oil, grease, moisture, water and contaminants.

Nevertheless the need to meet such hard requirements does not lead to a rigid and inflexible system. The ATEX series in fact encompasses superior benefits and affords outstanding flexibility and dependability in a comprehensive range of incremental and absolute encoders.

XC77 is the optical incremental encoder with ATEX certification boasting a max. resolution up to 10000 PPR at a max. counting frequency of 100 kHz. Position information is yielded in digital format with Index and complementary signals (AB0, /AB0) through Push-Pull (HTL) +10÷30VDC, Line Driver (TTL) +5VDC and Universal (PP/LD) +5÷30VDC output circuits.

XAC77 optical absolute encoder has been devised for applications that demand high resolution and the greatest accuracy. It can be supplied in either 18-bit single-turn version or 30-bit multi-turn version (16-bit single-turn + 14-bit multi-turn). It can be easily integrated into any industrial system and bus network as it supports a large variety of communication and even fieldbus interfaces: bit parallel, voltage 0-5V, 0-10V, ±5V and ±10V and current 4-20mA, 0-24mA and 4-24mA analogue (even with additional incremental track), SSI, BiSS as well as CANopen DS406 and Profibus-DP. Today, XAC77 series further includes a fully programmable absolute encoder. It is available in either 32-bit SSI serial output version or 28-bit Push-Pull / NPN bit parallel output version or 16-bit voltage / current analogue output version. 
It allows for on-site customer programmability and complete configuration of resolution, output code, preset, offset, counting direction, etc. Further advantage includes the user-friendly TEACH IN procedure which permits to define any axis travel by simply setting the start and stop reference points.


The cable output connection can be either radial or axial; cable can be supplied with lengths upon request.
